Toledo Museum of Art acquires Spanish sculpture from 17th century

  • Winning entries in the museum's Winter Ball Film Festival, each four minutes or less in length, will be shown starting at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Glass Pavilion. This is the first year for the festival and it drew 16 entries, nine of which have been honored for originality, technical skill, and story-telling merit. They may be viewed at www.toledomuseum.org/filmfest after Dec. 20.

    The museum's annual Winter Legacies will offer free family entertainment with an international flair, afternoons Dec. 26, 28 through 31, and Jan. 2. For a detailed schedule, check toledomuseum.org.

    Carol Bintz returns to the job she retired from three years ago. She's been named the museum's chief operating officer, replacing Rod Bigelow who left to join former director Don Bacigalupi at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark. Bintz has been working as the museum's development officer for business and planned giving.

    • Pottery classes for adults and children, offered by the Toledo Potters' Guild, will begin the first week in January. Classes meet once a week for 10 weeks in the guild's studio at Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Drive. Fees are $175 for adults, $135 for children.     • Spoken Words, featuring poems, inspirational text, and quotations, is on the walls of the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women at the University of Toledo through tomorrow. The center is in Tucker Hall.

    • Artists will show and sell their wares from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday in the Ottawa Tavern, 1817 Adams St., including Gloom Ceramics, Red Poppy Apothecary, vintage jewelry, and an art-making performance by Devicious!
