Annual spring exhibition coming to Heidelberg

Opening with a 2 to 4 p.m. reception Sunday is the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society’s annual spring exhibition at Heidelberg University in Arrowhead Park, 1757 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee. Neil Frankenhauser will be the juror. The show will be on view through June 24. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

A reception for 38 artists participating in a new show at the American Gallery will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 6600 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania. Metal, ceramics, painting, glass, and fiber pieces, along with photos of artisans in their studios, will be displayed. The show has another element: People are invited to visit many of the studios located throughout the area in an array of spaces, including historic barns, a former school, a onetime egg-processing plant, and specially built structures. Archaeologist William H. Peck will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Little Theater of the Toledo Museum of Art about new ideas on the daily lives of ancient Egyptians. Peck is a retired curator of ancient art at the Detroit Institute of Arts and the author of Egypt in Toledo.

Contest: The Collingwood Arts Center wants a new logo, and is accepting entries through June 30. The winner will receive a studio for a year at the nonprofit artist residency and performance venue. The selected logo will appear on all official publications, promotional materials, and advertisements for the center. The first Art Walk of the year will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in neighborhoods in and near downtown. Open will be art galleries and studios, shops, and eateries. It is organized by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo which offers maps of participating venues at acgt.org. Information: 419-254-2787.

Babble, Blabber, Chatter, Gibber, Jabber, Patter, Prattle, Rattle, Yammer, Yada yada yada is a series of 80 slides by Amalia Pica that will be displayed May 28 through Sept. 18 at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, 525 South State St., Ann Arbor. Also included are Pica’s sculpture, film, installations, and temporary interventions on buildings and objects. Recurring motifs in her work include megaphones, antennae, podiums, and signal flags — all related to communication. Information: 734-764-0395 and umma.umich.edu.
