Wednesday marks the opening of the Glass Art Society's 42nd annual conference, held mostly in SeaGate Convention Centre and the Toledo Museum of Art through June 16. Expected are 1,200 glass artists and connoisseurs for seminars, glass-blowing demonstrations, and talks. The conference is not open to the public but some events are, including the free Gallery Hop from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. June 15, with buses shuttling people from downtown to the museum and 30 galleries in other locations. Also, at 7 p.m. June 15 in the Toledo museum's Peristyle, Fred Wilson will give an illustrated talk about his art and racism in the way museums display art. Others speaking in the museum's Glass Pavilion that night will be Lucio Bubacco at 6, and Fritz Dreisbach and Jeff Mack at 7.

The 18th Annual Goblet Grab will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. June 15 in SeaGate Centre's Room 104.
The Marketplace for Glass Artists will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. June 15 and 16 in SeaGate Centre. Vendors will sell equipment, supplies, and services. There will also be flameworking demonstrations, lectures, and a student exhibition.

As art pours in to the area for the Glass Art Society's conference, galleries from here to north of Detroit are filling with art. ● The Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery collaborates with the Habatat Gallery in Royal Oak, Mich., June 11 through Sept. 14. The gallery is in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township. Shown will be 25 pieces of glass that have photographic or painted images, including Therman Statom, April Surgent, Tim Tate, Marc Petrovic, Michael Janis, and Susan Taylor Glasgow. ● The CVA Gallery presents Reflections + Refractions: 2-Dimensional Artwork Inspired by Glass, June 13-16 in the University of Toledo's Center for Visual Arts Gallery adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art at 620 Grove Place. Eighteen people have been invited to present their interpretations of the visual effects of glass. Featured will be work by Jeffery Abt, Heather Barns, Zlatka Bascandzieva, Hilary Brown, Dottie Campbell, Leah Cooper, Alisha Doxey, Ruth Foote, Kathy Goodell, Meggan Gould, Candace Hitt, Joe Johnson, Inna Linov, Nancy McGee, Michelle Murillo, Atsuko Tajima, Raphael Warshaw, and Bonnie Wylo. ● The renowned Portland, Ore., Bullseye Gallery will set up a pop-up gallery June 12-16 in Toledo School for the Arts, 333 14th St., showing kiln-formed glass by Giles Bettison, Jane Bruce, Cobi Cockburn, Mel Douglas, Mel George, Steve Klein, Jessica Loughlin, Dante Marioni, Richard Marquis, Klaus Moje, Kirstie Rea, April Surgent, and Richard Whiteley. ● Tom & Friends: A Tribute to Tom McGlauchlin's Legacy in Glass, opens Saturday and continues through July 14 at 20 North Gallery, 18 N. St. Clair St. In addition to pieces by the late McGlauchlin, there will be art by such notables as Herb Babcock, Clayton Bailey, Fritz Dreisbach, Edith Franklin, Henry Halem, Philip Hazard, Janet Kelman, Harvey Littleton, Shawn Messenger, Mark Peiser, Jack Schmidt, Norman Schulman, Robin Schultes & Patrick Dubreuil, Kelly Sheehan, John Stephenson and Meredith Wenzel, as well as by Dominick Labino.
● The Paula Brown Shop, 912 Monroe St., will host work by several artists, including Swedish pioneer Bertil Vallien, who will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the GAS conference. Vallien introduced sand-casting to glass artists in the United States. Also showing will be Tommie Rush, Richard Jolley, William Gudenrath, Venini, and Iittala. In the jewelry gallery will be glass wall sculptures by Jen Violette, Annieglass (table glass) by Annie Morhauser, and Antares Venezia glass jewelry by Fulvia Notari. Information: 419-241-8100.

● Launch Pad Cooperative, a new shared space for artists and writers, will open from 6 to 10 p.m. June 15 with Prologue, a show of work by its founding members Timothy Gaewsky, Crystal Gale Phelps, Kimberly Adams, Ian Welch, and Allison Parsons. Launch Pad is an artist-run gallery with a mission to provide support and encouragement to its members. It's in the Davis Building at 911 Jefferson Ave. Information: LaunchPadCooperative.com.
● River House Arts, 115 W. Front St. in Perrysburg, will open A Visual Conversation with a 6 to 9 p.m. reception tonight, featuring work by John Brekke, Jane Bruce, Sydney Cash, Irene Frolic, Natali Rodrigues, Michael Rogers, and Judith Schaechter. Information: www.river-house-arts.com.
● Stained, fused, and mosaic glass pieces by Beth Ziss will be displayed through June 30 in the Gaslight Gallery, 117 East Crawford St., Findlay.

A celebration of the South End Mural Project will be 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Galeria de las Americas, 1222-1224 Broadway. Mario Torero and Ricardo Quinonez and the O.L.A. artists will discuss their vision, process, and the mural experience. Several large murals have been painted on the sides of buildings along Broadway, about a mile south of downtown.

A 6 to 8 p.m. reception Saturday will open the 56th June Art Exhibit at the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert. The show runs through June 29 and includes 100 works. Awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Information: 419-238-6837 and wassenbergartcenter.org.
