Escape to dance, demos, and drawing at the museum


The Toledo Museum of Art will feature the Great Art Escape Dec. 26 to 30 with art "searches," dance and musical performances, storytelling, glass-blowing demos, and drawing in the galleries. At 11 a.m. Dec. 27, the 1936 musical comedy Swing Time, starring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, will be screened in the Peristyle, and from 2 to 3 p.m., swing dance instruction will be given. At 6 p.m. Dec. 28, Mary Gaynier will demonstrate paper-cut portraits in the Family Center. Also at 6, glass artist Danny White will give a talk about his work in the GlasSalon, followed by a 7 p.m. demonstration. Who would have thunk that bicycle racks would become art? Ten are sited in the Uptown area around Adams Street. Another 10 designs were recently selected from 123 submissions for racks that will be built and installed in the spring in the Warehouse District on downtown's south end. People whose designs were selected by the Arts Commission will receive $500 each. The winning designs were by Brent Lohmann, Amy Fidler, Jefferey Rodriguez and Dale Lehmann, Clifton Harvey, Streetspun Yarnbombing, Debi Heiks, Michelle Dunoski, Mr. Taylor, and two by Brien Strancar.

The Salon des Refuses show is accepting entries from people whose work was rejected from the annual Toledo Area Artists' Exhibition. Organized by Prizm Creative Community, the Salon will be open Feb. 1 through March 15 in the Parkwood Gallery at the Arts Commission offices. Mixed Media Workshops for teens and young adults will be 2 to 5 p.m. the first and third Sundays in January and February at the Art Supply Depo.
