Museum slates 4 classic films

A free Silver Screen Film Series continues in the Little Theater at the Toledo Museum of Art. Screenings will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 12 (A Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, 1951); 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12 (A Day at the Races with the Marx Brothers, 1937); at 1 p.m. Jan. 13 (Ziegfeld Girl with James Stewartand Judy Garland, 1941), and at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 13 (How to Marry a Millionaire with Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable, 1953).

Tales of Travel from the President's Attic continues through Jan. 27 at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont. President Hayes was the first U.S. president to travel to the West Coast while in office. He and his wife, Lucy Hayes, as well as their children and grandchildren, left steamer trunks, suitcases, and travel journals in the attic of what is now the Hayes Center. The exhibit shows what early and usually well-heeled travelers experienced. The Hayes visited Yosemite Valley in 1880 and their descendents traveled to Alaska decades before it became a state. Calls for artists:

● Proposals for a new series of three-day residencies, open to glass artists in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana and beginning in May, are being accepted by the Toledo Museum of Art. Those selected will have access to the Glass Pavilion and other museum resources, and will receive a stipend and lodging. Deadline is Feb. 1. ● Two and three-week residences for writers, composers, visual and performing artists, are offered at Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. A canoe and rustic cabin (no electricity or running water) are part of the package, as is transportation to the island from Houghton, Mich., about 600 miles north of Toledo. Deadline is Feb. 16. Artists are required to contribute an art piece representative of their Isle Royale residency and to share their experience with the public through presentations or demonstrations.
