Hudson Gallery showcases new artists

Opening with a 6 to 8 p.m. June 7 reception will be New Work by Carol Imes-Luscombe and Constandena Mandros at Hudson Gallery, 5645 N. Main St., Sylvania. A printmaker working in monoprints, Imes-Luscombe emphasizes beauty in these pieces.

“The ink can be worked and reworked, images can be drawn or transferred onto paper then changed with solvents, collages, or stencils, then the layers of ink begin to fuse and the magic of the color starts to take place,” she said.

In work by Mandros, mystery is an element.

“The painter is the consummate illusionist who invites you to see and experience vast vistas where others may see only paper, canvas, color and shape, revealing breathtaking hillsides where one may run and dance,” she said.

Fiber577, a juried show with 100 pieces of fiber art, will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 8 and and noon to 5 p.m. June 9 at the 577 Foundation at 577 E. Front St. in Perrysburg. Visitors to this free event can listen to live music, scout for fiber “bombs” on the grounds, make something in a fiber-art studio, and watch demonstrations of spinning, weaving, felting, basket weaving, and more. Art and About in Waterville, at which artists will paint at historic and scenic vistas around this riverside town, will be June 6, 7, and 8. Organized by the Waterville Area Arts Council, visitors can find out where artists-at-easels will be painting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and watch them. Aboriginal art expert Wally Caruana will discuss “The Emergence of Aboriginal Australian Art ” June 6 at 6 p.m. in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. This free presentation is offered as part of the Masters Series and is being held in conjunction with the Crossing Cultures: The Owen and Wagner Collection of Contemporary Aboriginal Australian Art from the Hood Museum of Art.

Caruana is considered to be one of the world’s leading experts on Aboriginal Australian art. Music and refreshments will be available in the Museum Café preceding Caruana’s talk from 4–6 p.m.

Tickets for the pre-lecture food and one drink are $15 members/$20 nonmembers and can be purchased at the main information desk or by calling 419-255-7000, ext. 7448. The Museum Store will be open until 6 p.m.

Museum visitors with early stage memory loss and their companions can view art that belonged to TMA founders Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey, and that was later donated to the museum Saturday at 1 p.m. Participants should meet in the Glass Pavilion. Also at the museum, Saturday at 2 p.m. will be a close-looking tour of Crossing Cultures.

Summer workshops for children and youth, led by degreed instructors, will begin July 8 at For the Love of Art, 4027 N. Holland-Sylvania Rd. In weekly workshops led by degreed instructors students will explore themes geared to age group. Information: 419-882-2060 and forloveart.com.

A reception will be 6 to 8 p.m. May 31 for an exhibit of work by Carolyn Ellingson that will continue through June 17 at Inside Angles Custom Framing Gallery, 6831 Angola Rd. in Holland. The late San Franciscan also produced monotypes and intaglio prints. Ellingson, having survived mental illness, cared for three sons, and embraced social media from its inception, expressed these experiences in her images.

Art in the Park, an art fair, will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 8 and noon to 5 p.m. June 9 in John W. Smith Park, 804 N. Evans St., Tecumseh, Mich. There will be activities for children from noon to 4 p.m. each day. A historic home tour will also be held.

Also in Techumseh, adult and youth students at Community Arts of Tecumseh will display their work from winter and spring classes at the Spring Student Art Show, beginning Monday. There will painting, printmaking, pastel, drawing, collage, and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, with a 5 to 8 p.m. reception June 5. The art center is at 804 N.
