Sylvania centenarian’s paintings on exhibit

Artwork by a 102-year-old Sylvania man whose paintings have been exhibited across the United States is now on display in the Perrysburg Municipal Building, 201 W. Indiana Ave.

Walter Chapman’‍s exhibit of 25 pieces, titled “Walter Chapman: People, Places, and Things,” will be up through Aug. 16. It includes 25 paintings Mr. Chapman has found inspiring during his career of more than 80 years.

The artist, and art teacher, has paintings in the Springfield Museum of Art in Missouri, Southwest Museum of Art in Arizona, Federation of Societies Purchase Award collection in Toledo, Canaday Library in the University of Toledo, Zanesville Center for the Arts, and Rockefeller Library in Rhode Island.

Mr. Chapman holds a Bronze Star for combat art during World War II. Many of his wartime pencil sketches are archived in the Brown University Military Collection.
