Delphi Corp. faxes contract offer to UAW

KOKOMO, Ind., Delphi Corp., the biggest U.S. autoparts supplier, faxed a new contract offer yesterday to the United Auto Workers union as the bankrupt company tries to reduce costs and avoid a strike.

Delphi, which fi led for bankruptcy last year, had proposed cutting hourly wages to $12.50 an hour from $27 and reducing its U.S. work force to about 10,000 from 33,000.

Clyde Sims of UAW Local 913 at a Delphi plant in Sandusky, said local union offi cials will get details today or Monday.
