Dana begins recall of Tacoma pickups

2/13/2010

Suburban Toledo's Dana Holding Corp. of Maumee has started a recall of Toyota Motor Corp.'s Tacoma pickups because of a drive-shaft problem, a person familiar with the matter said.

The recall includes about 8,000 Tacomas. Toyota told dealers yesterday that a crack could develop that could lead to the front drive shaft separating and falling from the truck, causing the vehicle to lose control. Certain vehicles from Ford Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. are also involved, the person said.

Dana sent the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a notice this week saying it would handle the recall after finding a defect in the manufacturing process, the person said.
