TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has reached a tentative agreement with the union that represents its Texarkana, Ark., tire plant, a union official in Texarkana said Friday morning.
David Beard, a spokesman for United Steel Workers Local 752L, said the two sides reached the tentative agreement late Thursday night. The previous contract between Cooper and Local 752 expired at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Beard said the proposal would be presented to the membership Wednesday. The vote is expected to take place Thursday.
"I think for what it’s worth, it’s not a bad contract," Mr. Beard said in a phone interview.
Local 752L represents about 1,500 hourly workers.
About 1,050 union employees at Cooper's plant in Findlay have been locked out since just after Thanksgiving in response to the local union rejecting what the company called its last best offer.
Cooper, headquartered in Findlay, is one of the largest tire manufacturers in the United States.
