Ford Motor Co. has reached an agreement to sell a Sandusky plant that makes headlight and taillight components to Flex-N-Gate, an Urbana, Ill., parts supplier group.

The sale should keep about 1,000 jobs in northern Ohio.

Flex-N-Gate will also take over the automotive lighting service parts operation in Bellevue.

Terms of the sales were not released.

Ford took control of 17 parts factories, including the Sandusky plant, in 2005 as it tried to save Visteon, a parts supplier Ford spun off in 2000. Visteon ultimately went bankrupt. With the Sandusky deal, the automaker has since divested 16 of the 17 plants.
