Toledo production to start in May for successor to Jeep Liberty
1/15/2013DETROIT -- Production of a new Jeep vehicle in Toledo will start May 23, Chrysler chief executive Sergio Marchionne said today at the North American International Auto Show.
"May 23rd is the date that the car goes into production," Mr. Marchionne said.
Dealer showrooms should have the vehicle for sale by summer.
The vehicle will replace the Jeep Liberty, production of which ended in August. The vehicle will be built at Chrysler's Toledo Assembly Complex, which will later get a second shift and 1,100 new jobs supporting the as of yet unnamed vehicle.
The new vehicle will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in late March, Mr. Marchionne said.
Mr. Marchionne made the remarks at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where earlier in the day Jeep launched a redesigned Grand Cherokee and announced new transmissions for the Compass and Patriot. The Compass was also given a minor facelift.
