Ohio, Michigan to share in $29M Toyota payout

2/15/2013

Ohio and Michigan are among 29 states and American Samoa that will share a $29 million settlement with Toyota Motor Corp. related to the automaker’s safety recalls.

State attorneys general sued Toyota after it recalled 14 million vehicles globally in 2009 and 2010 for accelerating without warning.

The suit accused Toyota of failing to notify customers promptly about the problems. Toyota says it will make vehicle information more accessible and deal faster with complaints. Toyota also will pay some restitution to owners.
