Archbold boys, Wauseon girls win NWOAL track titles
Wyse, Reiser capture 3 events; Evergreen’s Truckor takes 4 titles
5/18/2014METAMORA — The Archbold boys and Wauseon girls captured Northwest Ohio Athletic Conference track and field championships Friday night.
The Blue Streaks scored 140 points to runner-up Wauseon (130) and Bryan (94) to win the title for the second year in a row. The Indians cruised to the girls title with 181 points. Liberty Center finished second with 117 followed by Archbold (108).
Archbold’s Levi Wyse and Wauseon’s Quintin Reiser shined during the boys events, each defending their titles in three separate events. Wyse won the 100 in 10.84 seconds, the 200 in 22.35 and the 400 in 50.93, besting his times from a year ago in all three.
Reiser took home the 800 title with a time of 2:01.63. He also won the 1600 in 4:29.50 and the 3200 in 10:06.36.
Brandon Poncsak of Bryan came away with the 110 hurdles for the second straight year with a time of 14.43. Lincoln Parsley of Archbold won the 300 hurdles in 40.21, preventing Poncsak, who finished seventh, from repeating in that event.
The Blue Streaks dominated the relays, taking three of four.
Patrick Henry’s 44.19 was fast enough to win the 400, but Archbold took the 800 (1:33.20), 1600 (3:33.0) and 3200 (8:22.1).
Montpelier’s Dylan Snyder was the only new champion in the field events, capturing the long jump at 21 feet, 5.25 inches.
Christopher Boysel (Wauseon) won the high jump at 6-0. Wauseon’s Noah Castle defended his discus title with a throw of 176-7, just over 13 feet better than last year’s total.
Liberty Center’s Nick Demaline’s won the shot put again with a throw of 62-4. Travis Peters of Bryan defended his pole vault title with a mark of 14-8.
In the girls competition, Evergreen’s Carly Truckor earned four victories — winning the 100 (12.77) and 200 (25.95). She also won the 100 and 300 hurdles with times of 16.07 and 48.79, defending her title in both.
The Tigers’ Brittany Atkinson brought home the 1600 with a time of 5:06.56. She also won the 3200, cruising to an 11-second victory at 11:04.49.
Wauseon’s Seneca Wyse’s 59.86 in the 400 was quick enough to win the event for the second year in a row. Teammate Taylor Vernot won the 800 at 2:19.94.
Archbold’s girls also had success in the relays, winning three of four. The Blue Streaks finished first in the 400, 800, and 1600 with times of 52.15, 1:47.07, and 4:09.12, respectively. Liberty Center won the 3200 at 9:53.20.
Montpelier’s Natalie Herder won the high jump at 5-0, while Wyse took the long jump with a leap of 17-1.5.
Sally Frank of Wauseon grabbed the discus title with a throw of 126-5. Her teammate Brandi Thompson defended her championship in the shot put at 36-1.75. Delta’s Mary Miller won the pole vault at 8-6.
