Top players: Seniors Derek Knisely, 6-0, 180, WR-DB; Drew Ridgway, 5-10, 175, WR-LB; Zach Dean, 5-9-150, WR-DB; Nate Rau, 5-9,155, WR-DB; Brandon Dean, 5-10, 150, QB-DB; Paris Creek, 5-8, 140, WR-DB; Ethan Retcher, 6-0, 210, 6-0, 215, OL-LB. Sophomores Luke Nye, 5-10, 160, WR-LB; Sam Culler, 6-2, 240, WR-DB.

Outlook: The Golden Bears seek a third straight NWOAL title but gone is team leader, quarterback Austin Schimmoeller, who passed for more than 2,000 yards and rushed for more than 500 last year. Gone is Dan Pendergrast, who rushed for move than 700 yards.

Yet, there’s enough back to make Bryan the favorite.

“I’m excited and the kids are excited,” Kline said.

Gaining their stride early in the season will be key. Knisely and the Dean will be asked to handle leadership duties.

“We’re still trying to piece things together and see what we have,” Kline said. “We’ve got good numbers but we don’t have the experience.”
