Colorado assistant named to BG staff

BOWLING GREEN - Gregg Brandon, who has been the receivers coach at the University of Colorado, will become assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Bowling Green State University.

Urban Meyer was named head coach at Bowling Green last month.

Brandon, 44, will also coach the quarterbacks and wide receivers.

“I'm looking forward to the new position, but I will be taking some good memories with me from my time in Boulder and through the years with Gary,” Brandon said.

A Tucson, Ariz., native, he played for Colorado coach Gary Barnett at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs in the early 1970s. He was a defensive back and wide receiver in college at Mesa State and Northern Colorado.

Brandon, who also coached at Weber State, Wyoming, and Utah State, has been an assistant under Barnett since 1992, when Barnett became the head coach at Northwestern.

Brandon followed Barnett to Colorado in 1999 as receivers coach and also was the passing game coordinator this fall. He was Northwestern's recruitng coordinator his last seasons there (1997-1998) and was recruiting chief at Colorado in 1999.

“I'm excited for Gregg and his opportunity to become an assistant head coach and an offensive coordinator,” Barnett said. “It's been his goal and dream for a number of years.”
