MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Suzie Rizek's sixth-inning home run lifted Northern Illinois to a 2-1 win over second-seeded Bowling Green State University yesterday in the Mid-American Conference softball tournament.

With the loss, the Falcons (34-18) will play an elimination game against fifth-seeded Ohio, a 5-4 loser to Kent, at 10 a.m. today. NIU (20-33) is the sixth seed.

NIU's Jolene Heller earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits in her five innings of work. Heller improved to 3-8 on the year.

The Huskies got on the scoreboard quickly, with a run in the top of the first inning. Kelly Redican began with a single off sophomore McKenna Houle.

Redican took second on a wild pitch, went to third on a Megan Meyer groundout, and scored on a bouncer off the bat of Samantha Knoll.

The Falcons got on the board in the second inning. Senior Angie Domschot hit Heller's first pitch of the inning off the very top of the wall in center field for a double. Domschot took third on Lynsey Ebel's sacrifice bunt, as Ebel nearly beat the throw to first. Then, sophomore Libby Voshell ripped a double that bounced on the warning track in left, with Domschot scoring easily.
