BG women set for opener

The Curt Miller era in Bowling Green State University women's basketball begins at 7 tonight when the Falcons open the season at Youngstown State.

The former assistant at Colorado State has just a pair of seniors on his first BG team, but one of them, 5-11 guard Francine Miller, is probably the top offensive player in the Mid-American Conference. Dana Western-Schuka, a 5-11 forward, is the other senior starter.

BG's first-year coach plans to have a pair of sophomores in his lineup tonight - point guard Lindsay Austin and forward Pam Brown. Junior Kim Griech, a two-year veteran, rounds out the top five for the Falcons.

The Falcons, 11-18 last season, play at Detroit on Tuesday before departing for a pair of games in Colorado in the Coors Classic. BG's home-opener is Nov. 27 against Eastern Kentucky.
