Lakers zip BGSU 2-0

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State's Matt Violin earned his first career shutout, a 2-0 win last night over Bowling Green.

Nathan Ward scored an unassisted goal for the Lakers (6-23-4, 3-21-1 Central Collegiate) in the first period off a turnover in Bowling Green's zone. Ward also drew an assist on Adrian Kremblewski's goal in the third.

Violin made 31 saves in the game, including 14 in the second period.

It is the first time since February 2000 that the Lakers have shut out an opponent.

Tyler Masters made 17 saves for the Falcons (7-21-3, 4-18-3).

Bowling Green pulled Masters with 1:50 remaining for the extra attacker but couldn't get a shot by Violin.

Each team went 0-for-4 on the power play.
