Kent runs past Falcons

KENT, Ohio - Kent State defeated Bowling Green State University 82-61 in women's basketball yesterday to stay one game behind Miami in the MAC East Division.

Jamie Rubis led the Golden Flashes (14-12, 9-6 MAC) with 23 points. Lindsay Shearer tallied 18, Katalin Kollat had 17 and Valerie Zona added 10.

Francine Miller paced the Falcons (11-15, 4-11 MAC) with 18 points. Kim Griech had 16 and Stefanie Wenzel added 12.

Kent State fell behind 18-10 before scoring 10 straight for a 20-18 lead.

BG broke away for a 31-24 edge with 5:34 left in the half. But Kent came right back with a 16-2 run for a 40-33 lead at the break.

Bowling Green pulled within 44-42 before Kent went on a 19-0 run to put the game away. Rubis had nine of those points.

The Flashes outrebounded the Falcons 37-32 and shot 50 percent (27 of 54) from the floor. BG made 36 percent (22 of 62).

From the free-throw line, Kent hit 21 of 23, while BG made 8 of 12.

Kent State has won 10 games in a row over the Falcons, although BG leads the series 28-25.
