South Florida drops BG games

10/29/2003

BOWLING GREEN - The Bowling Green State University athletic department announced yesterday that South Florida will not honor a contract that called for the two schools to play three more times in the next four seasons.

“Primarily we're looking to have another home game on our schedule for next year,” said South Florida sports information director John Gerdes to explain the move.

South Florida's original schedule next season includes a home game with Pittsburgh and road contests at South Carolina and Bowling Green as well as eight Conference USA games - four at home and four on the road.

The Bulls were scheduled to come to BG on Sept. 11 next season, and the two teams then would play in Tampa in 2006 and in Bowling Green in 2007. Falcon officials were hoping South Florida would at least play next year's game after BG played the Bulls in Tampa last Nov. 16, losing 29-7.
