Wenzel, Mann boost Falcons

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Stefanie Wenzel scored 21 points and Ali Mann had 20 as Bowling Green topped Marshall 77-67 last night in Mid-American Conference women s basketball.

Lindsay Austin, who had seven assists, and Kelly Kapferer tallied 10 points each for the Falcons (16-9, 9-5), who never trailed.

“I m ecstatic with this win,” BG coach Curt Miller said. “This was a big gut-check for us [after two losses]. We accomplished a lot of what we planned to do, and executed a lot of our game plan. We got tentative and didn t make some plays down the stretch, but wow, what a win.”

BG hit 10 of 21 3-pointers including 5 of 7 by Wenzel.

The Falcons shot 45 percent (25 of 56) to the Thundering Herd s 36 percent (25 of 69). At the free-throw line, BG made 17 of 29 to Marshall s 12 of 16.

Marshall (14-11, 6-8) was paced by Sikeet Shepard-Hall with 18 points. Mary Pat Statler added 17.

The Herd held a 46-40 rebounding edge. Mann grabbed eight and Tene Lewis had seven for the Falcons.

Bowling Green plays at noon Sunday at Ball State before finishing the regular season at home Tuesday against Toledo.
