Steve Navarro, a junior tight end on the Bowling Green football team, is recovering from a stroke suffered in his off-campus apartment.

The 6-2, 249-pound native of Orland Park, Ill., is expected to return to his home this weekend.

He suffered the stroke on Monday.

Navarro turned 20 on May 29.

"We are very grateful that Steve's condition has stabilized and improved," BG football coach Gregg Brandon said.

"All of our thoughts and prayers have been with Steve and the Navarros. He has a great support system at home and everyone in the BGSU family will be there for them as he begins his recovery."

Last season Navarro played in all 14 games for the Falcons. He caught one pass, a six-yard touchdown grab in the win over Kent State; he also played on special teams, returning two kickoffs for 31 yards, including a 17-yard return against Toledo.

Navarro was listed as the starting tight end for the Falcons following spring drills.
