BG lands 2 on CCHA's rookie team

BOWLING GREEN - A pair of Bowling Green hockey players were honored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for their play during their freshman year.

Defenseman Michael Hodgson was named to the CCHA's all-rookie team, which is selected by the league's coaches, while forward Jonathan Matsumoto received honorable mention.

Hodgson, a native of Surfside, Calif., leads all Falcon blueliners in games played (34), points (17), goals (4) and shots (57). Hodgson has seen time on BG's power-play and penalty-kill units and has a plus-4 plus/minus rating for the season.

Matsumoto, who hails from Orleans, Ont., leads Bowling Green with 16 goals this season and is tied for the team lead with 30 points. He also leads the Falcons in power-play goals (nine) and game-winning goals (five). His five game-winners are second-best in the CCHA and third-best in Division I hockey.

The Falcons will host a first-round CCHA playoff series for the first time in 10 seasons when they play Alaska-Fairbanks at the BGSU Ice Arena this weekend in a best-of-three series with the Nanooks, with Friday's and Saturday's games starting at 7:05

p.m.

Should a third game be necessary, it will be played on Sunday starting at 5:05 p.m.

The winner of this series will advance to the Super Six at Joe Louis Arena starting Thursday, March 17.
