CLEVELAND - Bowling Green's Josh Almanson, who added 9.2 points to his scoring average from last season, was named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team yesterday in a vote of the coaches.

Almanson's teammate, John Reimold, earned a berth on the second team along with Toledo's Keith Triplett.

Almanson, a 6-8 senior, stands third in the MAC in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. Last season he averaged just 8.0 points per contest and entered this season with a career scoring average of 6.5 points.

The native of Bowling Green also leads the league in field-goal percentage with a 59.5 percent mark, and ranks fourth in free-throw percentage (82.0 percent) and ninth in blocked shots (1.0 per game).

Reimold, a 6-6 senior, leads the MAC in scoring with his 18.3 points per game. He also stands second in the league to Almanson in field-goal percentage (52.8 percent), third in both 3-pointers made (2.71 per game) and 3-point percentage (45.8 percent), and is ninth in free-throw percentage (79.8 percent).

Triplett led the Rockets to a share of the MAC's West Division title by averaging 15.1 points per game. He also averages 3.9 rebounds and leads the league with 2.6 steals per contest. The Bowsher High School product's 276 career steals are third-best in MAC history.

Almanson and Reimold both received league honors for the first time, while Triplett was named first team All-MAC last season - and runner-up in player of the year balloting - after earning honorable mention All-MAC the year before.

Besides Almanson, the rest of the All-MAC first team included Danny Horace and Chet Mason of Miami, Turner Battle of Buffalo and Ben Reed of Western Michigan.

Yesterday the league also announced two other awards voted by the MAC News Media Association. Miami's Charlie Coles was named coach of the year, while Battle was selected as the player of the year.
