Reimold is MAC player of year

Nolan Reimold of Bowling Green has been named the Mid-American Conference player of the year.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior outfielder leads the nation with a .791 slugging percentage. He was hitting .366 and led the MAC with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs entering yesterday s game.

BG senior first baseman Andy Hudak and sophomore pitcher Alan Brech joined Reimold on the All-MAC first team.

Hudak, a Start High School graduate, leads the MAC with a .378 batting average and is third in runs (51) and RBIs (54).

Brech was 8-1 with a 3.07 ERA in the regular season, including 5-0 in six MAC starts.

Miami sophomore outfielder Ryne Robinson, a Central Catholic product, was named to the second team.

No University of Toledo players made the team.

OXFORD, Ohio Ball State scored in the bottom of the 11th inning to defeat Bowling Green 5-4 yesterday in the first round of the MAC tournament.

The Falcons (33-17) will play Akron today at 10 a.m., with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.

Bowling Green scored single runs in the sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th innings, but Ball State responded to tie the score in both the ninth and 10th.

The Cardinals scored the game-winner on a two-out, bases-loaded hit by Kyle Dygert.

The game featured two of the league s top offensive teams, but Bowling Green s Alan Brech held Ball State to two runs in 61/3 innings, and Ball State s Joe Ness yielded just one run on four hits in seven innings.

Nolan Reimold had two RBIs for the Falcons. Tyler Wasserman was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Ball State s Eric Earnhart was 4-for-4 with two RBIs.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Jason Zoeller doubled in the tie-breaking run and Paul Farinacci added a three-run homer to lead Ohio State past Michigan 7-3 in 13 innings yesterday in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament. It was the longest game in the 25 years of the tournament.

Ohio State (36-17) has won 18 of its last 21 games.

Fourth-seeded Michigan (40-16) had two hits in the bottom of the 13th, but Rory Meister struck out the side to strand runners at first and third and earn his fifth win in 11 days.
