PHILADELPHIA - Bowling Green State University got back on the winning track yesterday with a 62-45 women's basketball victory over Iona in the consolation game of the Hawk Classic.
The Falcons outscored the Gaels 45-22 in the second half.
Liz Honegger led the Falcons (9-1) with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Carin Horne and Ali Mann added 10 points apiece and Kate Achter handed out seven assists.
Toni Horvath paced Iona (3-7) with 10 points.
Each team made 18 field goals, and Iona shot the better percentage - 34.6 to 27.7. But thanks to a 53-35 edge in rebounding, the Falcons got more shots (70-52), hit 5 of 27 3-point tries to Iona's 2 of 14, and made 21 of 29 free throw attempts to the Gaels' 7 of 13.
Honegger was not part of the poor-shooting effort by BG as she hit 8 of 21 attempts, including 3 of 8 from beyond the arc. She also went 5-for-5 at the line.
BG plays at Kentucky Jan. 2.
