Three high school seniors have signed letters of intent to play basketball at Bowling Green State University under first-year men's coach Louis Orr.

Dee Brown of Detroit, Austin Calhoun of Southfield, Mich. and Scott Thomas of Delaware, Ohio, comprise Orr's first full class.

Additionally, Curt Miller signed two players to his BGSU women's team.

Brown is a 6-foot-2 combo guard that led Country Day High School to the Class B state title last year, leading the team in scoring with nearly 17 points per game.

"He is multi-talented - he can shoot it, he can pass it - and is a tough competitor who can make plays from either the one or the two-guard position," Orr said. "He comes from a great program."

Calhoun is a versatile 6-7 forward that averaged a double-double during his junior season. Thomas, a 6-6 forward, averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists last year.

Joining the women's team for the 2008-09 season is Maribeth Giese of Cincinnati and Jess Slagle of Sidney, Ohio. Giese, 6-2, is considered the state's third-best center by Ohio Girls' Basketball Report. She averaged 16.6 points, 7.5 boards and 2.3 blocks a year ago.

Slagle, 5-9, is ranked the fifth-best shooting guard. She averaged 15 points each of the past two seasons.

"The staff is excited to see commitments from both Jess and Maribeth in the early signing period," Miller said. "They are outstanding players that have the ability to make an immediate impact on our program."
