Falcon women add Oregon transfer

7/23/2008

BOWLING GREEN - Former University of Oregon point guard Tamika Nurse has transferred to play at Bowling Green State University, the program announced yesterday.

Per NCAA rules, Nurse must sit out the upcoming season before becoming eligible in 2009-10. She has one year of eligibility remaining after playing three for the Ducks.

The 5-foot-8 Nurse, of Hamilton, Ont., chose Oregon over BG coming out of St. Thomas More Secondary School. Twice a Pac-10 player of the week, Nurse started in 48 games for the Ducks, but just 18 came last season when she averaged 7.1 points and 2.1 rebounds. The Ducks finished 14-17 overall and 7-11 in the Pac-10.

Nurse's aunt, Raquel (Nurse) McNabb, was the starting point guard for Syracuse from 1994-98 when BGSU coach Curt Miller was on staff for the Orange. McNabb is married to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"Tamika's arrival at Bowling Green will be a huge addition for our program," Miller said. "When she was making her final decision out of high school, she narrowed her choices to Oregon and Bowling Green. Three years later, we are excited she has chosen to finish her career as a Falcon while becoming an important piece of our championship drive."
