The End Zone: Pleasure in watching messy BG wins

Label me bitter if you wish, but there s something about bad football that really appeals to me. Messy turnovers, regrettable play calling, special teams miscues they can all come together to make an entertaining and sometimes humorous three hours of TV.

Now this stance doesn t hold true for every sport. I don t particularly enjoy watching base path blunders at the ballpark, nor can I find a silver lining in observing errant 18-foot jumpers in basketball. As for soccer, well, that sport never fails to grate the eyeballs. But bad football, eh, where do I sign up?

So to that end, I took pleasure in watching Bowling Green s wins over Kent State and Ohio the last two weekends. Kent was bad, OU deplorable. It was like a bad Lifetime movie that was enjoyable for all the wrong reasons.

That s not said to disparage BG s wins, as the Falcons should be praised for finally being able to lay the smack down on two of the MAC s softies. If you want to be a good team, one that contends for a league title, you must be able to deliver some wedgies to your little brothers in the conference.

But I have to see more from BG beginning next week against Buffalo. Are the Falcons suddenly good, or merely better than bad?
