BOWLING GREEN Otis Polk tied Bowling Green State University s record for career blocks and scored a key basket Thursday night in the Falcons 67-66 win over Kent State.

Polk s layup with 47 seconds gave the Falcons a 66-65 advantage they never lost. Kent s Tyree Evans shot at the buzzer that would ve won the game for the Golden Flashes fell short.

With the win, BGSU put itself in position to forge a tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference East, depending on what happens Thursday night between first-place Buffalo and Akron.

The Falcons also avenged a 72-48 loss to Kent on Jan. 14 and snapped the Flashes eight-game winning streak.

Polk recorded one block Thursday night to tie the school s all-time record of 117 blocks. Polk now shares the record with Tom Hall, who set the mark in 1992.

Nate Miller led the Falcons with 16 points. Five BGSU players scored in double figures, including Polk with 10 points.
