BOWLING GREEN – Reigning Mid-American Conference men's basketball coach of the year Louis Orr has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season.

“It's a blessing to be a part of the Bowling Green family,” said Orr, who led Bowling Green State University to the 2008-09 MAC regular season championship in only his second season in charge of the Falcons program.

"It's good to know that people support what you are trying to do and want to see you be successful. Being a good steward of this tremendous opportunity I have been given to make a positive impact on the lives of our student athletes is extremely important to me.”

The Falcons posted a 19-14 overall record last season and went on to play in the National Invitation Tournament. They claimed a MAC division title last season for the first time since 2000 and earned a postseason NIT bid for the first time since 2002.

BG athletics director Greg Christopher expects the Falcons to continue to excel during Orr's tenure.

“Louis has done a tremendous job of molding our men's basketball team into a group that believes it can win and compete for championships,” Christopher said. “His first two seasons have been positive steps forward. We are now looking forward to Louis and his staff continuing to build our men's program long term.”

Orr's coaching career includes five years at Seton Hall where the Pirates posted an 80-69 record from 2001 to 2006. He guided Seton Hall to two NCAA tournaments and one NIT tournament.

Orr played eight seasons in the NBA, two with the Indiana Pacers and six with the New York Knicks.
