Falcons hit 11 3-pointers to cruise past Bobcats

ATHENS, Ohio - Bowling Green State University rolled to an early 25-6 advantage and cruised to a 77-42 win over Ohio yesterday in Mid-American Conference women's basketball.

The Falcons made 11 3-pointers on the way to the lopsided win that improved their record to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference.

Tracy Pontius finished with a game-high 18 points and Lauren Prochaska added 17 for BG, with each contributing four 3-pointers.

Pontius scored 10 points in the first six minutes of the contest as Bowling Green led 14-5, and before the half was over the Falcons had built their advantage to 24 points before leading 37-18 at the break.

Pontius had 16 points in the first half, including all four of her 3-pointers, while Prochaska had 11 points and a trio of 3-pointers in that half.

In the second half Ohio never came closer than 18 points, with BG eventually expanding the lead to the 35-point final margin.

A total of 13 different players eventually scored for BG.

While the Falcon offense was clicking from behind the 3-point arc, the defense forced Ohio to commit 26 turnovers that led to 39 points for BG.

The Bobcats shot just 38.1 percent from the field as well as from the foul line and made just 2 of 8 3-pointers.

Thia Golston came off the bench to score 15 points and lead Ohio (4-11, 0-2).
