BG women romp Akron in MAC semis

CLEVELAND — Bowling Green State University jumped on the University of Akron midway through the opening half and never looked back en route to an 81-49 blowout victory in a Mid-American Conference tournament semifinal on Friday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena.

Lauren Prochaska scored a game-high 17 points to lead the No. 1 seed Falcons, who will face conference rival and No. 2 seed University of Toledo in today's MAC tournament championship game. Tara Breske added 13 points while Tracy Pontius and Chrissy Steffen finished with 12 and 10, respectively.

The six-time defending MAC regular season champions went on a 17-6 run to go up 29-12 with just under six minutes remaining in the first half. The Falcons (26-6) led the Zips (18-13) by no less than 14 points the rest of the game.
