Early runs lift Falcons to 8-7 win over Rockets

Bowling Green scored six runs in the first three innings against Toledo and held off the Rockets in an 8-7 win Saturday in baseball at Scott Park.

Toledo posted a three-run eighth inning to pull within a run, but the pitching combination of starter Michael Frank, and relievers Nick Bruns and Patrick O'Brien staved off the rally.

It was the second straight win for the Falcons (12-18-1, 5-6 Mid-American Conference) over the Rockets (21-12, 8-3).

The teams wrap up their three-game series today at 1:05 p.m.

Bowling Green's Jon Berti hit a two-run home run. He was 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs, and also scored two runs.

Toledo's Joe Corfman went 3-for-4, with a home run and three RBIs.

WASHINGTON - Georgetown center Greg Monroe is heading to the NBA, planning to hire an agent and skip his last two seasons of college eligibility.

The 6-foot-11 Monroe was a AP All-American third team as a sophomore after averaging 16.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 blocks this season.

He was the Big East Conference rookie of the year in 2008-09 after averaging 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds as a freshman.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Exhi, a 20-1 longshot, held off a late bid from Bushwhacked to pull off an upset in the $300,000 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland.

The victory gave trainer Todd Pletcher his third straight win in one of the final Kentucky Derby preps, though it's unlikely the 3-year-old colt will run at Churchill Downs. Exhi and jockey Robby Albarado beat Bushwhacked by three quarters of a length to pay $41.80, $16.80 and $8.60.
