BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University starting quarterback Matt Schilz is not expected to play when the Falcons face Michigan at noon Saturday.

Schilz suffered a shoulder injury on a sack in the third quarter of BG's 44-28 win over Marshall on Sept. 18. The current Falcon depth chart lists sophomore Aaron Pankratz or redshirt freshman Kellen Pagel as the potential starters against the Wolverines.

Pankratz replaced Schilz following the injury in the Marshall contest. He directed the Falcons to a fourth-quarter field goal and a touchdown that helped BG outscore the Thundering Herd 16-0 in that period and claim its first win of the season. Pankratz completed 5 of 8 eight passes for 111 yards and had one TD pass and one interception.

The injury to Schilz is listed as a AC sprain, and Schilz may return to the lineup as soon as the Falcons' home game against Buffalo on Oct. 2.

“It's a very fluid situation,” BG coach Dave Clawson said of the injury. “My guess is that Matt is not available this week, but we're trying to determine the severity of the injury.

“Matt will see the doctor again today, and we probably won't know more for the next 48 hours.”
