BOWLING GREEN - Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller knew the one-year contract extension that the school announced Thursday was coming.

Still, that doesn't mean Miller doesn't appreciate the extension that both he and associate head coach Jennifer Roos received. Their contracts have been extended through June 30, 2016.

After all, one of the amendments to his contract states that one year will be added to its length whenever the Falcons win a Mid-American Conference regular-season or tournament title, and BG did both last year.

"I've known since March this will happen, but I still thank [athletic director] Greg Christopher and the entire university administration for their support of the women's basketball program," Miller said. "I appreciate the way the university has been creative, thinking outside the box for incentives and for ways to add security for me and for my family."

According to contract information provided by the university, Miller receives a base salary of $160,124 that is supplemented by a number of incentive clauses. The incentives are based on winning division and league titles, advancing to postseason play, on-court and academic achievements by members of the squad, and attendance goals.

It's interesting to note that the $124 dollars in Miller's contract is equal to the 124 victories he had entering the 2007 season, the date the contract was signed.

Roos earns a base salary of $70,000 that also is supplemented by incentives based on league titles and academic performance of the players.

"I would like to thank BGSU, Greg Christopher and Curt Miller for affording me the opportunity to continue my professional career as a member of the BGSU family," Roos said in a statement. "I have been extremely fortunate to work with motivated and high-caliber student-athletes and coaches while at BG."

Last year's MAC title was the latest success in a program that has risen to great heights since Miller became head coach before the 2001-02 season. Miller has a 206-80 record in nine seasons at BG, reaching 200 wins quicker than any men's or women's coach in MAC history. Miller also is 108-36 in league play, reaching the 100-win plateau at the second-fastest clip in league annals.

The Falcons have won the last six straight MAC regular-season titles and have claimed four MAC Tournament titles in that span.

Last year BG finished with a 27-7 overall record and a 14-2 mark in MAC play, winning both the regular-season and tournament titles and earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past six seasons.

The Falcons also have been honored for their academic achievements. BG ranked sixth in the country in the WBCA's 2009-10 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll after finishing fifth the year before. In both seasons Bowling Green was the only MAC school and the only Ohio school on the list.

"Curt Miller, Jennifer Roos and the women's basketball staff have established a level of excellence that is remarkable," Christopher said. "It is difficult to build a program and reach a championship level, but it is even more challenging to sustain that championship level year after year.

"We look forward to Curt and Jennifer being a part of BGSU for years to come."
