End Zone: BGSU

BG coach Dave Clawson has used the phrase: “Don't blink.”

What does he mean? Clawson's point is that if you have a plan, you should stick with that plan no matter how tough times get and no matter how tempting it is to move away from the plan.

Falcon fans can tell you that these are tough times. Last Saturday's game at Ohio marked the first game this season BG played without passion, and the Falcons paid for it with a lopsided loss to the Bobcats.

Things won't get any easier this week as Bowling Green plays at Temple. The Owls are a far cry from the team BG spanked with back-to-back 70-point outbursts in 2004-05; despite losing at Northern Illinois last week, Temple remains a favorite to win the MAC's East Division.

How did the Owls turn things around?

“It's been a long road, but there has been a change in the culture,” Temple coach Al Golden said. “There are winning expectations now, both on and off the field. There's a process, and we had to follow the process that helped us turn the program around.”

Those are words for Falcon fans to live by. No matter how ugly things get — and, frankly, 1-11 isn't out of the question if the team continues to play as it did last week — Clawson and the BG program should stay the course.

In short: Don't blink.
