Falcons edged out by Temple

PHILADELPHIA – The Bowling Green State University football team rallied for 13 fourth-quarter points but saw a potential game-winning two-point try fall incomplete in a 28-27 loss at Temple yesterday.

The Falcons scored when Calvin Wiley caught a 4-yard TD toss from Matt Schilz as time ran out, but Schilz could not connect with Kamar Jorden on the two-point conversion play.

The touchdown capped a 13-play, 69-yard drive that began with just 1:47 on the clock. Schilz completed 6-of-10 passes on the drive for 76 yards, including a 33-yard “Hail Mary” toss to Jorden on a fourth-and-16 play that moved the ball down to the Owls' 4-yard line.

Schilz completed 30-of-51 passes for 287 yards; Jorden caught 12 passes for 143 yards, while Adrian Hodges had six catches for 38 and Alex Bayer made five receptions for 77 yards.

Temple's back-up quarterback, Mike Gerardi, completed 9-of-15 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, an 80-yard strike to Rod Streater and a 46-yard reception by Evan Rodriguez.

The Owls' Bernard Pierce ran for a game-high 106 yards and a TD on 15 carries.
