Earlier this week a Web site announced, "Indications are Bowling Green could fire Dave Clawson." Just a speculation, with no attribution.

This Web site obviously doesn't know what it's talking about. BG officials were quick to respond, saying the school has "zero percent" interest in firing Clawson. It was sad that this idea even merited a response, because the only thing this Web site proved was this: You shouldn't get all of your news from the Internet.

Clawson has done a solid job rebuilding the Falcons, more than doubling last season's win total. When you consider the APR mess he was forced to clean up -- and the scholarship reductions he dealt with -- plus the young talent he has injected into the program, things are looking up heading into 2012.

Bowling Green returns 10 of 11 defensive starters from this season, including a pair of All-MAC picks in Chris Jones and Dwayne Woods. The offense returns eight starters, and if it can address the loss of receivers Kamar Jorden and Eugene Cooper and shore up the offensive line, it will be better too. If the Falcons can get consistency from the kicking game, the return of punter Brian Schmiedebusch and returner BooBoo Gates turns this area into a strength too.

Fire Clawson? BG administrators are pleased with the work he has done and clearly have no intention of firing him.
