BOWLING GREEN -- Quarterback Trent Hurley will transfer out of the Bowling Green State University football program, the team announced Thursday.

Hurley, who just completed his redshirt freshman season, asked for and was granted his release from the team by coach Dave Clawson.

Hurley was a candidate to start for the Falcons during spring and fall drills. Matt Schilz, a sophomore who was the team's starter in 2010, won the job, and Hurley saw action in four games in 2011.

Hurley completed 9-of-16 passes for 115 yards and had five rushing attempts for 31 net yards.

Indications are that Hurley will transfer to Southeast Missouri State, an FBS school based in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Redhawks are a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
