BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green State University senior defensive tackle Chris Jones was named Mid-American Conference East Division defensive player of the week, the league office announced today.

Jones, a native of Brownsburg, Ind., finished with five tackles in the win over Idaho Saturday, with four of those tackles resulting in no gain or negative yardage for the Vandals. Jones was credited with 2.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, in the Falcons 21-13 win.

Jones managed to earn his first sack even though his blocker drew a holding penalty on the play. His second sack was part of a goal-line stand that helped BG limit Idaho to a field goal late in the second quarter. His other tackle for loss came in the third quarter after Idaho had driven deep into BG territory and forced the Vandals to kick a field goal, which they missed.

On the season Jones has seven tackles in two games, including six solo stops. He has 3 1/2 tackles for loss this season to rank third in the MAC in that category.
