Falcons snap 3-game skid, win in NIT


MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Bowl­ing Green State Univer­sity men’s bas­ket­ball team snapped a three-game los­ing streak with a 68-54 vic­tory against Ala­bama-Hunts­ville in the Fal­cons’ fi­nal game in the NIT Sea­son Tip Off.

The con­test was the sec­ond game in as many days for both squads and was played at Robert Mor­ris Col­lege’s Sewell Center.

A’us­ton Cal­houn posted the first BG dou­ble-dou­ble this sea­son with 20 points and 10 re­bounds, while Chauncey Orr posted a ca­reer-high 11 points. Jor­don Craw­ford added 10 points and four as­sists for the Fal­cons (2-3).

Con­nor Blasi had 14 points to lead Ala­bama-Hunts­ville, the third-ranked Divi­sion II team in the coun­try. Wayne Dedrick scored 13 and Ron­nie Mack added 11 for the Charg­ers, who made 10 3-point­ers but fell to 3-3.

Orr scored the game’s first bas­ket, and Ala­bama-Hunts­ville promptly scored the next nine to force BG to burn a time­out less than five min­utes into the con­test. But 3-point­ers by Orr and Luke Kraus helped the Fal­cons get back into the game.

Bowl­ing Green still trailed 21-13 with 8 min­utes, 58 sec­onds left in the first half be­fore the Fal­cons used a 17-2 run to lead 30-23. Cal­houn scored the fi­nal eight points dur­ing that run as BG led 37-31 at half­time.

Bowl­ing Green will re­turn to ac­tion Tues­day night, when it hosts Detroit at the Stroh Center start­ing at 7 p.m.
