ATHENS, Ohio — The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball suffered a 72-63 loss to Ohio University on Saturday.

A’uston Calhoun finished with 19 points and eight rebounds while Jordon Crawford added 17 points and four assists for the Falcons, who fell to 9-14 overall and 4-6 in the Mid-American Conference.

Reggie Kelly had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead four players in double figures for Ohio (17-6, 8-1 MAC).

T.J. Hall and Walter Offutt each scored 12 points while D.J. Cooper added 10 points and eight assists for the Bobcats.

There were four ties in the game’s first seven minutes before a three-point play by Ohio’s Stevie Taylor jump-started a 9-2 run that gave the Bobcats a 23-16 lead with 9:09 left in the first half.

Bowling Green’s Crawford then hit a pair of 3’s and had seven points to cut the Falcons’ deficit to 25-24 with 6:11 to play, and Craig Sealey’s layup with just 24 seconds remaining made the score 35-34 at the half.

Chauncey Orr’s basket at the 19:21 mark of the second half tied the game at 37-all, but Ohio responded with 11 unanswered points to lead 48-37 with 15 minutes to go.

From that point BG managed to come no closer than six points, while the Bobcats extended their margin to as many as 14 points before the final horn.

Tempers flared in the final minutes of the game as Crawford was called for a foul on Cooper, and soon after both players were charged with technical fouls — as were both team’s benches.

After the game there was a brief skirmish in the handshake line, which quickly was halted.

The next game for the Falcons is on Wednesday when they host Western Michigan at the Stroh Center starting at 7 p.m.
