Carpenter scores to push Bowling Green hockey past Ferris St. 2-1

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ryan Carpenter’s overtime goal capped a 2-1 Bowling Green State University hockey comeback against host Ferris State in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game Friday night.

Carpenter netted his 13th goal this season at the 2:13 mark of the extra session for the victory. Connor Kucera and Dan DeSalvo were credited with assists on the goal as Bowling Green won its fourth game out of the last five contests.

Cam Wojtala scored his sixth of the season with 1:28 remaining in regulation to force overtime with an assist from Mike Sullivan.

Bowling Green (12-14-5, 9-11-3-1 CCHA) got a strong performance in goal by Tommy Burke. He finished with 36 saves, including a pair of stops on Ferris State breakaways.

The win keeps BG in seventh place in the league, two points ahead of Lake Superior State and five points ahead of ninth place Northern Michigan after both teams behind the Falcons won as well.

The Bulldogs (14-13-4, 12-11-2-1) got their lone goal from Kyle Bonis, his 16th this season, at the 16:37 mark of the first period. Their goalie, C.J. Motte, stopped 30 shots.

Neither team scored on the power play with the Falcons going 0-for-4 with the man-advantage while the Bulldogs were 0-for-3.

The two teams will finish their two-game series today starting at 5:05 p.m. and will air regionally on Fox Sports Detroit as a part of Hockey Day in Michigan.
