BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team is dealing with injury issues as it hits the home stretch of this season.

The Falcons, who host East Division leader Akron at the Stroh Center Wednesday, may not have Jasmine Matthews again this year because of a stress fracture in her foot.

“I would like to see her come back, but she’s still in a walking boot, so I would anticipate her season is over,” BG coach Jennifer Roos said Monday.

Matthews, who was named to the Mid-American Conference’s all-freshman team last season, has played in 13 of the Falcons’ 24 games this year, averaging 5.5 points per contest.

Senior Simone Eli, a Genoa High School graduate, has not played this season because of knee problems that resulted in surgery in December.

“Ideally, I’d like to see her available for Senior Day [March 3 against Ohio], but we will see how her knee progresses,” Roos said.

Several other players are fighting through injuries to stay on the court. The most obvious is junior Alexis Rogers, who suffered a broken nose in the Buffalo game Feb. 7 but has played in the two games since.

Junior Jill Stein recently suffered a broken finger but has not missed any games. Neither has senior Danielle Havel, who is working through back problems.

“We’re limping into [the final weeks],” Roos said. “I am proud of how our kids are putting in the work [on the court] and in the training room to deal with the injuries.

“I know there are a lot of teams with injuries like this who would have packed it in a long time ago.”
