BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green’s Bobby Shea is one of three finalists for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s award for the league’s top defenseman.

Shea, a senior from Harrison Township, Mich., will compete with Western Michigan’s Dan DeKeyser and Steven Spinell of Miami for the annual award.

Shea led the Falcons with a plus-minus rating of plus-14 in conference games and blocked 32 shots. DeKeyser is a junior who won the award last season, while Spinell is a senior who helped the RedHawks lead the CCHA in fewest goals allowed in league play with 50.

The CCHA winners will be announced March 22.

Shea and Falcons travel to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to begin a best-of-three second-round CCHA playoffs series against Notre Dame. Games today, Saturday, and Sunday (if necessary) start at 7:05 p.m. at the Compton Family Events Center.
