BGSU names senior Schilz as starting quarterback in opener against Tulsa

BOWLING GREEN -- The Bowling Green State University football team announced today that senior Matt Schilz will be the starting quarterback in the Falcons' season opener against Tulsa.

The game between BG and the Golden Hurricanes will be played Thursday, Aug. 29 at Doyt Perry Stadium starting at 7 p.m., and will be televised by ESPNU.

Schilz, who won the job in a battle with sophomore Matt Johnson, has started 35 games for BG in his career. He has thrown for 7,832 career yards, third-most in school history, and is fifth in touchdown passes with 50.

Johnson has played in eight games with the Falcons and has completed 10-of-28 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown.
