Falcons score on first 2 possessions of 2nd half, win 41-22 over Kent State

KENT, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University football team claimed a 41-22 victory over Kent State today.

BG now is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Golden Flashes are 1-1 and 0-1.

The Falcons won their MAC opener thanks to 576 yards of total offense as Matt Johnson completed 19-of-25 passes for 357 yards and a pair of TDs. Travis Greene ran for 145 yards on 24 carries.

Bowling Green limited the Golden Flashes to just 65 yards of total offense in the second half.

 

THIRD QUARTER

The Bowling Green State University football team scored on its first two third-quarter possessions while limiting Kent State to 14 yards of total offense in the quarter to lead 34-22.

The Falcons got a 41-yard field goal by Tyler Tate at 6:29 left in the third quarter, then used a 92-yard touchdown pass from Matt Johnson to Ryan Burbrink with 4:33 to play in the period to lead 34-22.

Johnson has completed 16 of 22 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns in the first three quarters.

 

HALFTIME

The Bowling Green State University football team leads Kent State 24-22 at halftime at Dix Stadium.

The two teams scored on every drive of the second quarter except the last, when the Golden Flashes decided to run out the clock.

BG scored on a 30-yard field goal by Tyler Tate at 14:46 of the second quarter, a 3-yard run by Andre Givens with 6:57 to play in the period, and on a 7-yard pass by Matt Johnson to Jared Cohen with 54 seconds left in the half.

Kent State scored touchdowns on a 12-yard pass from Colin Reardon to Casey Pierce and a 2-yard TD plunge by Trayion Durham.

 

FIRST QUARTER

The Bowling Green State University football team trails Kent State 8-7 after one quarter today at KSU's Dix Stadium.

The Falcons scored on a 1-yard TD run by Travis Greene on the game's first drive. Greene's TD run capped a nine-play, 77-yard drive.

But the Golden Flashes responded with a five-play, 75-yard drive for a score on its first possession. Chris Humphrey caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Colin Reardon, and Humphrey added a two-point conversion run.
