Bowling Green defensive back Jerry "BooBoo" Gates eludes Miami quarterback Zac Dysert in an October, 2012 game.
BOWLING GREEN -- Two members of the Bowling Green State University football team received Mid-American Conference player of the week honors as safety BooBoo Gates was named East Division defensive player of the week while kicker Tyler Tate was named East Division special teams player of the week.
Gates, a senior from Middletown, Ohio, finished with four tackles in the 45-3 win at Miami. He also recovered a pair of fumbles, returning one 11 yards for a touchdown. It marked the fourth different way he had scored a TD in a game, having scored on a interception return, kickoff return and punt return.
Tate, a sophomore from Carroll, Ohio, was perfect on seven kicks in the Miami win. He tied his career high with six extra points and also added a 29-yard field goal.
